2016 - Riga City Architect award for public space appreciation for Restaurant "3" public terrace in Oldriga
2016 - Latvian building annual award - honourable mention for restaurant "3" public terrace in Oldriga
A summer terrace made for Restaurant 3 on Kalēju Street in Old Riga. The restaurant's food concept is linked with ingredients that can be found in the Latvian countryside or forests. Our goal was to bring the natural feeling of the forest and meadow into the city environment, and therefore the terrace is made of massive oak logs. They are placed in a wave-like pattern in reference to old Latvian rural settlements. Pockets hewn into the logs hold colourful plants, bringing the fresh feeling of the meadow to the terrace. The table tops are made of solid oak, and the chairs are supplemented with pillows and blankets. A thin metal construction separates the terrace from the street and is used to hang lamps from, which adds warmth and homey feeling to the terrace. Woodwork by Verners Kalacis.
